An observation

I have been told that I should cut off and donate my hair about ten times as often as I have been told that I should donate blood.

I generally only get the hair comment when I'm cursing my hair and threatening to cut it all off, so it's not surprising that people admonish me to not just throw it out. I rarely get annoyed with my blood and threaten to drain it all though. And I'm usually the one trying to drag my friends to donate blood with me, so I guess this is totally irrelevant in pretty much every way.

Donating hair is important, too, for people suffering through chemo treatments.

Sarah: Weirdly, when I'm cursing my hair people tell me that it's lovely. When I'm just sitting there quietly having long hair, people randomly tell me I should cut it all off and give it to charity, as though I'm not using it and it's a problem to be gotten rid of or something. Although the blood donor thing might be because the donor screening process here asks a lot of very personal questions about your sex life, so if a person can't donate blood it's probably for very good and TMI reasons so pressuring people is not helpful.

L-girl: Unless the charities I don't know about do things differently, chemo patients actually get synthetic wigs because their need is temporary; the real hair wigs go to alopecia patients because they will need wigs throughout their lifetime. But if my hair ever gets made into a wig, it's going to be for me when I get chemo (or perhaps for a same-haired relative).

And that puppy needs to come be my best friend!
