Open Letter to Rogers

Dear Rogers:

If #-####-#### is not a valid account number, please do not print it on the bill next to the words "account number." If you want that 12-digit number instead, please label the 12-digit number "account number" instead of "cable account reference."

Thank you.

Tee hee...

The CSC who told you that is a knob. They're both account numbers, in different billing systems. One, called SGI, has an account number that looks like:

239-024123221

Vision 21, the "new" billing system, has a BAN (Billing Account Number) which looks like either: 043221332 or 0-4322-1332.

So, technically, they're both account numbers. The agent shouldn't have scolded you and instead politely asked for the other number *or* just looked it up using other methods. It's certainly not your fault.

Actually it was a computer that told me that, not a human, (I was too cranky to talk to a human in the first place) which is why I'm insisting on terminological perfection. People misspeak all the time, but the field on the contact for should say exactly the same thing as the field in the billing database (and if they're going to compare them, isn't it extra effort to make them say something different?)
