There's something egregiously wrong with our classification system

A chihuahua and a St. Bernard can both rightfully be called dogs.

And yet a clemintine cannot rightfully be called an orange.

I've read that the genetic difference between a Chihuahua and a Great Dane is very very tiny, where the genetic difference between a wolf and one of the dog breeds that look wolf-like is very substantial.
