My brain hurts

There are fish in Lake Ontario.

There are fish in Lake Erie.

Lake Ontario is connected to Lake Erie by Niagara Falls.

So how did the fish get up and/or down the falls?????

The fish got down the Falls very easily. If you think about it, they are in the water, not falling out of it.

If they want to get back to Lake Erie (like, do I ever miss the higher pollution levels, dude), they have to go through the Welland canal like the lake freighters.

They can actually survive the fall down the falls? How??? They would be freefalling, since the water is freefalling, so I always thought it would work like if a person is in a freefalling elevator.
